Thousands of Americans lost their lives to those illegal entry aliens who bypassed vetting through not only the blatant catering of US officials’ actions to not only allow illegal entry but by going to troubled Nations and picking them up with US funds and illegally smuggling them into this country, thereby becoming human traffickers! Find evidence of just one incident of fraud or several suspicious acts of fraud or suspicions of fraud, or a witness or whistle blower against ANY Agency and I mean ANY federal or military or charity or religion and present that evidence to our first honest AG in a long time, Pam Bondi, Attorney General. Present directly to the AG and make certain that she is aware of what you have. I obtained and executed a search warrant on a DOD Nuclear Disposal site in Western NY!! If I could do that to the DOD, you should certainly be able to have the AG order the FBI to open a case and execute search warrants, if you have PC…include the bank accounts for those who controlled the money as well as the residences, out buildings of all those who are involved! Get lists of former employees as well…somebody WILL roll over IF you are correct! I had to follow protocol by making the presentation to the AG and was accompanied by USA Dennis Vacco, his AUSA, and SAC Rob Langford and we presented briefs from the AEC, EPA, NYDEC, and several other agencies. We obtained approval and I wrote the affidavits with my evidence which was allegations from current and former employees. By the way we all prayed that the allegations were incorrect, and they were. The seriousness involved an extremely large and high contamination number if the allegations were true. They were not and I arrested a few people …but we withdrew the charges. Mr. Musk you can advise Senator ‘Knows Nothing’ Schumer there is NO sanctuary for crime, criminals, senators, both honest and dishonest, in these United States…and to my delight, he just committed a serious felony crime. Schumer should advise Waters and any other morons of the same! Also ask Waters how many states she passed through/over to incite people to riot...can we charge each State? I believe the civil fine is $50K for each offense...then there’s jail time...only curious? Title18 Section 2102 USC - What does this law prohibit? • Traveling interstate or foreign to incite a riot • Using interstate or foreign commerce to incite a riot • Organizing, promoting, or encouraging a riot • Participating in a riot • Committing violence to further a riot • Aiding or abetting others to incite or participate in a riot While we are cleaning house… the AG MUST direct the FBI to issue search warrants for ALL the Muslim encampments…there was +/- 50 in the US including Binghamton, NY. It has to be someone who has money behind him almost unlimited funds…somebody like Mr. George Soros for example who donated millions of dollars to get elected, mostly minority and in my opinion, unqualified Mayors, State AG’s, DA’s and other positions of authority to significantly “change America”, in my opinion! You are probably on the right track but even though we all know who is just wetting his pants to take over America…he must be capable of ANYTHING. I believe he must have been a “leader” of some sort with contacts around the world. He must have a plan…a good one, not unlike the Cloward and Piven plan. He must have a staff of very loyal people or very stupid, not unlike Hussein Obama, has! I understand that he retained a staff of thousands with funding from somebody super rich and funded/retained his 200 campaign offices?! To what intent, Hussein? To control what? Each and every one who participated in “any part” of these major criminal acts (all we need is 2 people and 2 overt acts of the Conspiracy) and you are in and liable. If the plan is to overthrow our Republic and make the US a socialist nation…by weakening her with bankruptcy, chaos, (Cloward and Piven) … they, too, are guilty of criminal knowledge and failure to report numerous felonies… that is Misprision of a Felony…TREASON, and you could be fully involved. You see there is NO Statute of Limitations for capital crimes! Also, this can be rolled over into a RICO case because it has ALL the elements with so many subjects, thanks to being given immunity and/or some other protection of absolution that put all who have it, into a bucket of boiling water…WHAT? Well, just as an example, you helped arrange for lodging a few times by email for illegals into the US. Assume that was also done by several people, you only spoke to over the phone and arranged to put some of your smuggled people into contracted lodging. You are now a player! If one illegal kills anybody …. You may have a problem and added a conspirator to murder to your rap sheet?! Now IF we make this MAJOR criminal family into a RICO, which it is, the date of the Statute of Limitation changes, doesn’t start until the last date of the last act, even if you never had a deal with him. You see… and I have covered this many times before…involving many of the same subjects (or soon to be subjects). When you received “absolution” …free of any wrongdoing…there’s issues. First, you cannot plead the 5th. Why, because you gave up that right the minute you accepted the “get out of jail free card”. Next, if you have 50 to 100 subjects, there are RICO rules that may come into play and, here’s the best part, if one individual is covered with let’s say DOG POOP and you brush up against that person… delivered a piece of mail (email) and that act was part of a remotely tied into a lesser act, like murder, you can be charged. How? That depends… you will need a good and very expensive RICO lawyer! Here’s the part I really like, if the “leader” is charged and involves you (and I’m telling you now, that he absolutely WILL throw anybody and everybody under the bus) and you are subpoenaed to testify AGAINST HIM IN A TREASON TRIAL, you must testify. If you refuse, you go to jail… if you lie, you lose your immunity and you go to jail. Why would “he” buy a house one block from the White House…keep all those offices… keep thousands on the payroll… what’s the product being sold… hmmmm? Whose paying those bills? Now for the puppet… he needs a fall guy…but…he is too brain dead to defend himself. Wait… didn’t he pardon his family while the new President was taking his oath so Trump couldn’t do anything about it. That doesn’t sound like someone incapacitated, brain dead… sounds like he should be forced to be examined to determine if his last acts, all the pardons, are void as Joe is too brain dead or he is sound and can defend himself. The new AG must jump on this. Show no mercy… he sure as shit doesn’t deserve any. Now his fall guy is his wife, who is without a “Fall Guy”? The puppet who has been around a long time is... greedy, selfish, has people HE can trust (family?) at the end of a shady career but slippery enough to never have been caught. Somebody who has been very close to the leader. He would have to be politically strong enough and arrogant enough, to admit in public he committed Hobbs Act - Extortion and then bragged about it…IN PUBLIC! It apparently pays to have a wooden head! Now, neither of these scoundrels are free of each other. Keep in mind…we are talking the death penalty and dozens of serious felonies, and a part of the Cloward and Piven plan on how to make the US into a Socialist (Islamic) Nation! The leader has done some underhanded deals in the limelight and believes he could, would and will claim he just made suggestions…“It’s not my fault he jumped over the Falls” …he gives a known enemy of the US billions of dollars in supplies, weapons, shoulder missiles, who knows… we do? His actions were seriously questioned but he had “his people” in high places who said, “You’re safe” …is he? We CANNOT allow two former Presidents to commit treasonous crimes against the citizens of this country, cause the deaths of soldiers and citizens, aid and abet enemies…and just walk away. Give me Rudy Giuliani, Trey Goudy and Joe diGenova and Victoria Toensing as Special Prosecutors and hand pick former and present (if possible) agents for this Special and we will clean house. The NYO was full of criminal agents who worked the heaviest cases in the entire FBI, myself included. There are NO current agents in the FBI who have worked on major criminal cases. That is because the FBI doesn’t work criminal cases anymore and has not for the 30 years since I retired. For President Trump…you beat me to the punch on firing and revoking clearances…. but don’t stop now! Hussein’s army will never let you rest. You must strip his and the Dummy (OBiden) of clearances and invoke the Logan Act to prohibit either from conspiring with the leaders of our enemies. The move by Brazil and China to trade directly in their own currencies is a taste of what's possible, and the idea of a gold-backed currency could be revolutionary. Kash is up against the same problem Wray had. Wray did NOT have the experience to know who he could trust…trust to believe that this guy knows what HE is doing. For example, Andy McCabe hid evidence in his desk for 6 months! That is a fireable felony including tampering with evidence. I guess he never learned about the Chain of Custody! Wray could NOT tell the difference between the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly! He had no experience on who to believe or rely on, so he relied on McCabe, Strzok, Baker, and Page…how did that workout? I’ll bet between the four of those experts, in their entire FBI career, they didn’t have four arrests; that’s one each nor obtain any convictions or recover anything that was stolen! In the 30 years I’ve been retired, the FBI has completely devoid itself of ALL the criminal violations that Agents MUST work. Those violations are the backbone that made the FBI famous…bank robberies, interstate theft, escape federal prisoner, Hobbs Act, there are 15 such violations Patel must get back, or NOTHING will work not even the Agents…sorry… but I never have heard of anything good about the current Agents…only illegal acts! Agents are supposed to arrest bad guys and take it to trial! Entire squads go 1-2 years with no arrests, recoveries, convictions…what kind of Law Enforcement Bureau has it become? Many Agents don’t carry guns! There are no Agents on the job now that I would, “go through a door with” and I’m not exaggerating! Criminal Agents…Agents who you could depend on are gone. Some 15-20 years ago I sat with an entire squad…White Collar Squad, about 15 to 20 Agents, and Supervisor at a retirement dinner. We introduced ourselves and when they heard my name the reaction surprised me. One Agent was kind enough to say my name was ALL OVER the closed case files… arrests, search warrants, kidnapping…wow! He said, “From BRs to that Bomb Case to where you were chasing six bombs and finally stopped the 6th”, to Tim McVeigh, OKC Bomb Case …How many people did you arrest, what Squads were you on, and on and on. My numbers overwhelmed the Agents who had read the case files. “Last year on truck Squad in NY mega millions in goods recovered, not dozens of arrests but hundreds and your last year 57 BR arrests”, how did you do it? I responded with, “We worked 300 truck cases, many with kidnappings. We arrested sometimes 12 to 15 of Gotti’s boys in the drop… and we locked up all of them! That’s all we did … and on the NY Bank Squad we had 500 BRs a year! Handled by 35 Agents and we solved 75% . They read like novels one Agent said. I asked the Supervisor how many arrests did his Squad have last year? He responded, “None” in the last two years…Silence…I said “What”? That is not unusual, it’s the norm! And it’s not the Agents fault. Mostly it’s Comey all the way back to Obama, my opinion. Obama’s goal is to flip America into a Socialist, Islamic nation. The evidence is overwhelming, my opinion. When I took Bill McVeigh, father of Tim, to the jail at OKC, under direct orders from AG Janet Reno who relayed from President Clinton to me and the ASAC, that he needs to know if this is a lone wolf or invasion, for me to do the talking. We met the Agents who were working the case, security agents who never made an arrest. Now, at that time was normal, they did not work criminal cases. They do surveillances and take pictures…that’s their job. The case Agent asked me if we had to tell him his rights. That was 1995, I retired after the OKC Case as I saw what was coming! Today unfortunately, you have an entire FBI of Hunter Gatherers. To do things the right way you have to fire every single agent starting with the executives. And every single DOJ Attorney! Why…you ask…because they haven’t worked cases… in years …for 30 years! You cannot count on any agents to not screw up a search warrant or subject interview, or honor the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedures, or Evidence Chain of Custody. Who are you going to ask… McCabe, Strzok? Use Mar-a-Lago as an example as well as the whole list of …”mid-morning dangerous raids” against Roger Stone, Papadopoulos, etc. with SWAT, newspapers, TV “total idiots”, against every rule in the books and Title 18, the 4th Amendment, the Entire Constitution, Rule 41 and on and on! The FBI Agents Book of Rules and Regs…if they still have one …and EVERY SINGLE SEARCH they did…ILLEGAL! You know that’s what the FBI is supposed to do…arrest and convict assholes…not hire them! BUT we don’t do it with freaking CNN, HRT, SWAT, boat, and helicopters. At 5 am on a Carter Page or the President …Jesus, those morons who did that must be fired. As far as I’m concerned …if they want to play James Bond, send them to the CIA, or NSA, so they can pretend they are Agents doing Counterintelligence work, what a contradiction of words! Clapper or Brennan are the best of the best liars you will find. McCabe and Strzok and even Comey would fit right in! To keep Agents, they would have to be vetted and go back to training school while Kash gets back the violations they absolutely must work. Except for WFO…fire everybody! I warned/alerted the 2016 President Trump to fire Comey and the entire DOJ starting with the Civil Rights Unit. Then do everyone else and I am NOT kidding. They cannot be trusted to NOT break the law. Ask J. Christian Adams about the 36 DOJ Civil Rights Attorneys who were ordered by a Texas District Judge, to not appear in any of 36 Districts. He held all of them in contempt for multiple violations of his court orders. He stripped them of their ability to practice their trade in any of the 36 States, which had sued the DOJ. What did “King” Holder do … Nothing!? Mr. Patel, the entire DOJ has been corrupted by Eric Holder, in my opinion. They have been Holderized and are therefore useless. They have been held in contempt, many times! In 2001, Sept 1st, Bob Mueller became FBI Director and TEN days later we were attacked by Islamic Muslims, who killed more people than Japan at Pearl Harbor. Neither Mueller, President Bush, our military leaders knew what happened nor what to do. All military and law enforcement agencies were dumbfounded. In my opinion Mueller did the right move to “temporarily “place all FBI personnel on security work and off criminal work…to find who attacked us. The only one who really knew was Col. Ollie North, but no nobody would listen to Col. North. A few months before …VPAl Gore didn’t even know who Osama bin Laden was. Col. North explained to Gore that bin Laden was the biggest terrorist in the world at that time! Gore was on one of the House Security Committees fighting for more important things like Climate Change and CO2?! Unfortunately for America, the scoundrel James Comey who was made an Assistant USA by Clinton and allowed the Clintons to walk away from fraud allegations involving real estate deals. After he was appointed FBI Director …after Mueller… Comey, in my opinion, then over several years, made the FBI his personal weapon by dropping criminal violations which was the backbone of the FBI! He stopped Agents from taking complaint calls to remove the Agent population away from contact with the public! Just one example … in the school shooting in Ft. Lauderdale from what I heard from other former Agents, the call first went into the Ft. I personally tried for a half hour to get information on a fleeing fugitive, who was fleeing to Canada, to my old FBI Buffalo, and had to threaten the operator to get an Agent to get me the SAC and I retired as Supervisor of the Bank Squad! With the FBI backbone gone, Comey like Obiden started hiring Agents with either no backbone or no brains as when they were asked to do illegal acts, they said, “Yes sir”. Obiden intentionally hired staff who have the IQ of Carp…why? Because a crap…sorry…a carp cannot answer any questions…pretty smart don’t you think? What did we learn from Mayorkas? What could they do? How about, just say, “NO”. I will get you that information…I bet they are still waiting! I was involved in the writing of Affidavits for Search Warrants too many times to add up in some 30 years…I also did that for Title 3 Wiretaps… Carter Page case…the FBI went to the FISA Court instead of District court to obtain search warrants for Page. Then from there went on to the Trump Republican headquarter and went on from there with more. They are all illegal for numerous reasons that I have written on, and the Poison Tree starts with Carter Page. If you don’t believe me, the courts have recently said the same as I have been saying for years…all those wiretaps are illegal. The FISA warrants they obtained using the pure FICTION, Steele Dossier from Fusion GPS are all illegal. They used a fraudulent Dossier as the only Probable Cause…. a fraudulent document that Hillary Clinton and Fusion GPS made up?! They should all be indicted for… too many crimes to list. Every search warrant these geniuses wrote is illegal. FBI Comey signed off on the Affidavits and so did Rosenstein…why? Heads of Agencies do not sign off on warrants? OOPS, unless they are not trusted by the Court…in this case …the FISA court! Comey admitted the PC was “Unsubstantiated and Salacious” and he signed that they were, “True and correct” to the best of his ability, two months before! I just couldn’t take the liberals and their crazy, radical, extreme ideas anymore. I moved to Las Vegas. It was the best move of my life. In Las Vegas, we have no taxes -- no income tax, no business tax, no capital gains tax, no inheritance tax and among the lowest property taxes in America. Guns are legal. The sun is always out. And everyone I know is a conservative MAGA Trump supporter. You know what I call that? HEAVEN. But I loved Los Angeles in the old days. I arrived in L.A. in 1989 to start my job as lead anchorman and host of five television shows at CNBC (then known as Financial News Network). Back then, L.A. was far different than now. It was still the “old-school L.A.” of Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra and, of course, Ronald Reagan. It was a great town. We even had a Republican governor, Pete Wilson, from 1991-1999. I fell in love with L.A. But over my 13 years of living in L.A. (most of those years in Malibu), it changed dramatically. Now, look what these extreme, radical, communist nutjobs have done to my beautiful L.A. Over 2,000 homes have burned to the ground (so far). Let that number sink in. It will take decades to rebuild all that was lost. Wildfires are nothing new. No one should have been surprised about a wildfire. No one should have been caught unprepared. Wildfires are so common in L.A., a large portion of their budget should have been devoted to fire prevention, water management and forest clearing. And another large portion of the budget should have been devoted to hiring more firemen and training them for wildfires. Who didn’t know this was coming? I spend my summers in Park City, Utah. Utah is a red Republican state. Two summers ago, I was in Park City when a gigantic wildfire broke out from a lightning strike. Park City is surrounded by forest. Homeowners were scared to death this was “the big one” they’ve always dreaded. But Utah was prepared. They sent water-dropping planes and helicopters. Not one home was lost. At the time, I gave my opinion on radio and TV. I said: “This success story could never happen in California. California has no money for firefighting because they spend it all on millions of illegal aliens. And their minds are focused 24/7 on open borders, DEI, the transgender agenda, reparations and environmental extremism.” Bullseye. That’s the story of the worst natural disaster in California history that we’re all watching in shock right now. Here are the problems that turned a bad wildfire combined with a bad wind event into one of the biggest disasters in U.S. history, certainly the most expensive of all time. First, Los Angeles elected a radical, extreme, communist nutjob for mayor. She was in Africa when the fire broke out. What is the mayor of L.A. doing in Africa? Why would she abandon her own city, when everyone knew a massive wind event was on the way? This is Exhibit A for the mental illness of liberalism. I call it “criminal negligence.” She should be indicted, arrested and if found guilty, spend years in prison. Second, we come to DEI. Fire Department of old-school white guys and hiring for “diversity.” Maybe, just maybe, a bunch of white, straight men who spent their lives fighting wildfires could have slowed or stopped this fire. If you just lost your home and a lifetime of memories in this fire, which would you choose -- a white fireman who knows how to fight a wildfire, or a black lesbian hired for her skin color and sexual orientation? Next, we come to budget constraints. This mayor cut the fire department budget by $17 million. I’ll bet she needed the money for DEI salaries and programs, and of course, for housing, education and health care for illegals. Maybe if she had spent the $17 million on the fire department, and added $17 million more to hire more firefighters and equipment, those 2,000plus homes would still be standing today. Next, we come to radical insane environmentalism. L.A. is a city built on the Pacific Ocean. Yet the firefighters had no water? Need I say more? Maybe they should have used all the billions they spent on illegal aliens to build new reservoirs and build desalinization plants, clear dead brush and replace old pipes so firefighters have water pressure. Maybe they should have released more water to L.A., instead of protecting some obscure fish. Next, we come to the homeless problem. My friends in L.A. tell me 80% of the time of the L.A. city council is spent on the issues of illegal aliens and the homeless. Maybe they should instead devote 80% of their time to preparing for the natural disasters that plague L.A. -- fires, mudslides and earthquakes. Next, we come to Ukraine -- another 24/7 liberal obsession. Are you aware a large portion of L.A.’s firefighting equipment was sent to Ukraine to aid in the war effort? Lastly, we come to another liberal insane obsession -- COVID vaccines. L.A. fired hundreds of professional firemen who refused the vaccine. Could we have used them in the past 72 hours? How many homes could a few hundred extra firemen have saved? This terrible, tragic story is not about wildfires or climate change. I don't have any tools. What type of hand tools should I buy to get my own toolbox started? -- Holli W. Dear Holli: Even if you are moving into a new house, you will find many needed projects that require basic hand tools and a few simple power tools. Buy a toolbox which is larger than you think you will need initially. As you start doing projects, there will likely be some specialty tools you'll end up buying. The old saying that "If something does not fit correctly or will not come loose, just get a bigger hammer," still applies. If your budget allows for only one hammer, get a 20-ounce vibration-damping type. Ridgid Tool makes a high-tech looking one that actually absorbs the shock very well and is comfortable to use. A 25-foot tape measure is also a must for every do-it-yourselfer. Longer ones are available, but they are cumbersome to handle and you seldom will need the extra length. For one-person use, a 1-inch wide tape measure will allow you to extend it a long distance without it bending. Look for one with an easily replaceable tape. If you plan to do any structural projects around your house, you will need some levels. Don't ever try to eyeball whether a stud or beam is level because, unless you have bionic eyes, you will certainly be off. A 2-foot bubble-type of level is adequate. There are very jazzy electronic levels for the professional, but they are probably out of your price range. A short torpedo bubble level is inexpensive, handy for small jobs and easy to carry. Remember, though: The longer the level is, the more accurate the measurement will be. A good-quality set of chisels is also a must for any do-it-yourselfer’s toolbox. It is surprising how a little chiseling can make a part fit in place even if you cut the part incorrectly. It is probably least expensive to buy an entire set of them so that you have all the common sizes. You will need both flat blade and Phillips screwdrivers. Both are fairly inexpensive to buy in sets. They are always on sale somewhere. If you plan to use your screwdrivers as pry bars and chisels too, as many people do, you will need individual screwdrivers. Look for sets of these with slightly soft handles for comfort. If you plan to use screwdrivers as they are designed to be used, consider getting a combination screwdriver that has various sizes (12 or more) of snap-in ends. Sears Craftsman makes a particularly nice one which holds the ends securely in place, but they are still easy to switch. Some other items that you should consider are: adjustable (crescent) wrench, hand wood saw, hacksaw, lineman's pliers for electrical work, needle nose pliers, standard pliers, slip-joint pliers, large crow bar, small pry bar and a set of clamps. Select screw-type clamps and a pair of three different sizes. The warranty is also a consideration when selecting tools. Not long ago, Sears Craftsman was one of the few companies to offer a lifetime replacement warranty on its hand tools. Now, many companies offer this. The same hardware store may offer some brands with lifetime warranties and some without, so make sure to ask about each tool. Finally, you will need a toolbox to store your new hand tools. The prices of some can be quite high. You might try finding a large fishing tackle box to use. Also, consider getting a tool belt to carry them while you are working on the project. From bank and armored car robberies, truck hijackings, kidnapping to environmental crimes, political corruption, Hobbs Act, RICO, bombing, skyjacking and much more. Without those violations/cases, there NEVER would have been an FBI. The FBI is founded on criminal cases, supported by citizens who trust the FBI! Bob Mueller and James Comey changed all that. In my opinion, Mueller’s decision was by necessity, 9/11, 10 days after he became Director. He put all Criminal and Security Agents on solving the undeclared ACT OF WAR, that Bush misses, pulled on us by…Islam, Iran, Saudi Arabia (Oh yes!). We, the FBI, solved it and arrested all surviving subjects. Our investigation solved that case with a lot of help …but it also proved that bad decisions from President Clinton, to NOT search the five Saudi’s computers, was fatal to 3000 innocent Americans! Learning to fly but not takeoff or land was ignored by Clinton because he believed Islam to be a religion…fatal is an understatement! But the sanctity of their computers was saved!? February 10, 2025 The Sun Bay Paper Page 10 Social Security Update for 2025 It has been my custom for most of the past 27 years to write a yearend column that summarizes the Social Security updates scheduled to take place the following year. I already discussed some of these updates in a column back in October when they were first announced, but it doesn’t hurt to repeat them here. (They all grow out of the annual cost-of-living adjustments that have been part of the program since 1973.) Before I go on, I’ve got to address a related and totally misleading ad that pops up almost every day on my cellphone and iPad, and I’m sure it on your devices, too. The headline goes something like this: “Here are 6 major changes to Social Security coming in 2025 that you probably don’t know about.” If you open it up (and maybe get sucked in by all the other ads on the site), you will learn that those “major changes” are just the routine COL adjustments that have been part of the program for over 50 years now. I’m sharing those routine adjustments with you today -- without all the hype. Almost all Social Security beneficiaries are familiar with the most popular and publicized upcoming change: the increase in monthly benefit checks for 2025 due to the automated cost-ofliving adjustment, or COLA. As all of you are already aware, that increase will be 2.5%. I always dread mentioning COLAs in this column because every single time I do, I am flooded with emails from readers complaining that the increase is not enough. Yet here’s the rub: Many economists and social planners believe Social Security COLAs are too generous! (I’ve explained why in past columns, but I don’t have the space to get into that argument today.) That’s why many discussions of long-range reform for Social Security include proposals to reduce cost of living increases. OK, back to the 2025 Social Security COLA. Due to these increases, the average monthly retirement check will be $1,976 in 2025, a $49 increase from the 2024 level. The maximum Social Security check for a worker turning full retirement age in 2025 will be $4,018, compared to $3,822 in 2024. And please note that $4,018 is the maximum for someone turning full retirement age in 2025. That does not mean it is the maximum Social Security payment anyone can receive. There are millions of Social Security beneficiaries who get much more than that, primarily because they worked well past their FRA and/or delayed starting their benefits until age 70. Here’s another important point about the COLA: Many readers have been asking me if they must file for Social Security benefits in 2024 in order to get the COLA that’s paid in January 2025. The answer is no. The COLA will be built into the benefit computation formula. So even if you don’t file for Social Security until next year or some subsequent year, you’ll still get the 2.5% increase. Although this is a Social Security column, I must mention the upcoming increase in the Medicare Part B premium, which is deducted from Social Security checks for most people. In 2025, the basic Part B premium will be $185. And as has been the case for 20 years now, wealthy people will pay more than the basic premium. I don’t want to get into the complicated issue of Medicare premiums other than to make this quick point. Even though they are linked in the minds of most senior citizens, Social Security and Medicare are entirely separate programs, administered by entirely separate federal agencies, and they have entirely separate rules and regulations regarding their benefit and payment structures. For example, the Part B Medicare premium increase has nothing to do with the Social Security COLA. Instead, by law, it must be set at a level that covers 25% of the cost of running the program. Taxpayers pick up the remaining 75%. (And again, wealthy people pay more than the 25% share.) Another measuring stick called the national wage index is used to set increases to other provisions of the law that affect Social Security beneficiaries and taxpayers. Specifically, this includes increases in the amount of wages or self-employment income subject to Social Security tax; the amount of income needed to earn a “quarter of coverage;” and the Social Security earnings penalty limits. The Social Security taxable earnings base will go up from $168,600 in 2024 to $176,100 in 2025. In other words, people who earn more than $176,100 in 2025 will no longer have Social Security payroll taxes deducted from their paychecks once they hit that threshold. This has always been a very controversial provision of the law. (Bill Gates pays the same amount of Social Security tax as his plumber!) I think it’s a pretty good bet that any eventual Social Security reform package will include an increase in that wage base. Most people need 40 Social Security work credits (sometimes called “quarters of coverage”) to be eligible for monthly benefit checks from the system. In 2024, people who were working earned one credit for each $1,730 in Social Security taxable income. But no one earns more than four credits per year. In other words, once you made $6,920, your Social Security record has been credited with the maximum four credits or quarters of coverage. In 2025, the one credit limit goes up to $1,810, meaning you will have to earn $7,240 this coming year before you get the maximum four credits assigned to your Social Security account. People under their full retirement age who get Social Security retirement or survivors benefits but who are still working are subject to limits in the amount of money they can earn and still receive all their Social Security checks. That limit was $22,320 in 2024 and will be $23,400 in 2025. For every $2 a person earns over those limits, $1 is withheld from his or her monthly benefits. There is a higher earnings threshold in the year a person turns full retirement age that applies from the beginning of the year until the month the person reaches FRA. (The income penalty goes away once a person reaches that magic age.) That threshold goes up from $59,520 in 2024 to $62,160 in 2025. A couple other Social Security provisions are also impacted by inflationary increases. For example, people getting disability benefits who try to work can generally continue getting those benefits as long as they are not working at a “substantial” level. In 2024, the law defined substantial work as any job paying $1,550 or more per month. In 2025, that substantial earnings level increases to $1,620 monthly. Finally, the Supplemental Security Income basic federal payment level for one person goes up from $943 in 2024 to $967 in 2025. SSI is a federal welfare program administered by the Social Security Administration, but it is not a Social Security benefit. It is paid for out of general revenues, not Social Security taxes.
