August 9, 2024 The Sun Bay Paper Page 10 Kamala Harris’ Background World News Cont. from pg 5 crushed around her as she climbed onto a raised platform on a truck to address the crowd. “After six days of brutal repression, they thought they were going to silence us, intimidate or paralyze us,” she told them. “The presence of every one of you here today represents the best of Venezuela.” Machado and González, a 74-yearold former diplomat, endorsed by Machado when the government forbid her to run, said tally sheets they obtained from voting machines in polling centers nationwide show Maduro clearly lost his bid for a third six-year term, receiving less than 30% of the vote and Gonzales receiving 67%. An Associated Press analysis Friday of vote tally sheets released by the opposition coalition indicates that Gonzalez won significantly more votes in the election than the government has claimed, casting serious doubt on the official declaration that Maduro won. The AP processed almost 24,000 images of tally sheets, representing the results from 79% of voting machines. Each sheet encoded vote counts in QR codes, which the AP programmatically decoded and analyzed, resulting in tabulations of 10.26 million votes. According to the calculations, González received 6.89 million votes, nearly half a million more than the government says Maduro won. The tabulations also show Maduro received 3.13 million votes from the tally sheets released. Late Friday, Venezuela’s high court, the Supreme Justice Tribunal, ordered the Maduro-controlled National Electoral Council to hand over the precinct vote count sheets in three days. There have been calls from multiple governments, including Maduro’s close regional allies, for Venezuela’s electoral authorities to release the precinct-level tallies, as it has after previous elections. There has been a flurry of diplomatic efforts by Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico to convince Maduro to allow an impartial audit of the vote. On Thursday, the governments of the three countries issued a joint statement calling on Venezuela’s electoral authorities “to move forward expeditiously and publicly release” detailed voting data. French imports of Russia’s liquefied natural gas surge, and Ukraine supporters seek a stop France: Shipments of Russian liquefied natural gas to France more than doubled in the first half of this year, according to new analyses of trade data, at a time when Europe has tried to pull back from energy purchases that help finance the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine. Europe has restricted oil imports from Russia, but natural gas is still allowed. And while companies in France are importing the most, one analysis found EU countries overall imported 7% more Russian LNG, natural gas that has been chilled and liquefied for easier ocean transport, in the first half of this year compared to the same period a year ago. Oleh Savytskyi, a founding member of nonprofit Razom We Stand, which campaigns for tougher sanctions on Russian fossil fuels, said the EU’s goal of phasing out all Russian fossil fuels by 2027 was “appallingly off track.” He said countries buying Russian LNG are sabotaging the continent’s energy transition and contributing billions to Russia’s war effort. European governments have said banning Russian gas imports entirely would send energy and heating bills skyrocketing and industrial users of gas would suffer, too. At the same time France was importing more Russian LNG, it was importing less from other suppliers including the United States, Angola, Cameroon, Egypt, and Nigeria — an amount approaching the jump in Russian LNG, according to the analysis. None of those other countries’ LNG exports were affected by the Red Sea attacks. UK Prime Minister Discusses ‘Standing Army’ of Police to Address Rioting Across Britain LONDON: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Monday the establishment of a “standing army” of specialist police to tackle rioting, alongside enhancements to the justice system to manage the aftermath of hundreds of arrests following a week of violent disorder in cities nationwide. In an urgent meeting, Starmer attributed the unrest to “far-right thuggery,” which he said was fueled by misinformation on social media. This misinformation stoked anger over a stabbing rampage at a dance class that resulted in the deaths of three girls and injuries to 10 people. False online rumors claiming the suspect was a Muslim asylum-seeker led to attacks on immigrants and mosques. “Whatever the apparent motivation, this is not protest. It is pure violence and we will not tolerate attacks on mosques or our Muslim communities,” Starmer stated. “The full force of the law will be visited on all those who are identified as having taken part in these activities.” Sun Bay Paper Staff Cont. from pg 9 Washington Deep State Bureaucracy. She would fill all appointive positions in the US Intelligence Agencies, in the Department of Homeland Security, in the Department of Defense, in The Justice Department, the Department of State, the FBI, the CIA, most cabinet positions, the National Security Council, and in the White House Staff. American voters must alert their fellow Americans that Kamala Harris is a very serious National Security threat to the very survival of the US Constitutional Republic; she has been a fellow traveler of Marxists, Communists, Maoists, Socialists, Progressives, and Chinese Communists for over 35 years. President Trump had much more background information on Kamala Harris than we presented here, and he was correct, when he accused Kamala Harris of being a Communist subverter. Geoffrey B.
