Fort Myers Beach Tram Service Ends as LeeTran Adjusts for Off -Season

by Richard Luthmann

In Fort Myers Beach, the seasonal tram service provided by Lee County Transit, commonly known as LeeTran, will conclude on Wednesday, April 24. This marks the end of the service period for both the Fort Myers Beach tram and the River District Trolley lines, which include the Blue 500 and Gold 505 lines.

Starting Thursday April, 25, LeeTran will revert several of its routes to non-seasonal schedules, aiming to enhance connectivity and improve on-time performance across the network. This adjustment is part of the transit system’s routine seasonal changes as the winter tourist influx wanes.

Notable changes in the service include the cessation of the Fort Myers Beach tram, a popular transport option among both tourists and residents during the busy season. The River District Trolleys will also stop operating under their seasonal schedule from the same date.

This transition from seasonal to nonseasonal operation is a routine part of LeeTran’s efforts to accommodate both the high tourist season and the regular needs of local commuters. LeeTran’s comprehensive approach ensures that changes are communicated effectively and that adjustments are made to meet the evolving transportation needs of Lee County’s residents and visitors.

LeeTran advises all riders to consult the updated schedules and routing information to plan their journeys effetively. These updates can be accessed online at RideLeeTran.com or by contacting the customer service team at 239-LEE-TRAN.

Serving as the principal public transit provider in Lee County, LeeTran facilitates over 3 million rides annually. During the peak season, LeeTran operates 26 bus routes, which reduces to 23 during the offseason. In addition to standard bus services, LeeTran operates a paratransit service known as Passport and recently introduced microtransit vehicles to its fleet.
